Hic sunt leones - LEV motto for 2013/2014
The new season is fast approaching, and HC LEV Praha has brought in several new players to improve the team. At the recently completed Prague Hockey Cup, the home fans got their first look at the style of hockey the team will be playing, and the team´s new motto reflects the "take no prisoners" attitude and international flavour of the team. "Hic sunt leones!"
Hīc sunt leōnēs (Here are the Lions) - In ancient times, it was a term marked on maps by cartographers to warn travelers about dangerous or unexplored places. Likewise, HC LEV Praha has adopted the motto for the 2013/2014 KHL season to warn visiting teams from abroad, about the hostile environment they are entering when they visit the home of our Lions. Its aim is to unite the team´s fanbase against incoming opponents, mainly from the Russian Federation.
The motto "Hic sunt leones" is not only meant to represtent Lev at home games, but also in the streets of Prague.
"Latin is a common bond between European languages," explains Jan Rachota, the club´s PR director. "On a team that is comprised of many nationalities, its significance can be understood by anybody, whether they are Czech, Canadian, Swedish, Finnish or Slovak. "When they visit Tipsport Arena, we want everybody to understand that this is the lion´s den, and that nobody is going to come in here and push Lev around on their home ice. This will be part of the pre-game theme and build-up to the opening faceoff."
The slogan is already displayed on the team´s dressing room door, and appears on billboards around Prague, and will be seen at team functions.
